Gerald F. Richman
Gerald F. Richman, President of the firm, is board certified by The Florida Bar as both a civil trial lawyer and business litigation lawyer concentrating on trial and appellate practice, and complex commercial litigation with emphasis on antitrust, securities, contract, construction, federal agency, corporate, banking, civil RICO, professional liability, consumer, employment, civil rights, probate litigation and class action issues, representing both plaintiffs and defendants.
He also has extensive experience in real estate litigation, including mortgage foreclosures, condominiums, zoning and land use, brokerage disputes, governmental matters and election law issues. In 2000 as lead counsel conducted the trial of one of the three presidential election vote cases.
Mr. Richman earned a degree in Building Construction, with honors, at the University of Florida, his Juris Doctor at the University of Florida College of Law, and studied at Georgetown University’s Graduate Law School.
Mr. Richman is a Fellow of the American College of Trial Lawyers and served on the Board of Governors of the International Society of Barristers. He is a Charter Member of both the Miami Chapter of the American Board of Trial Advocates ("ABOTA") and the National Association of Consumer Advocates. He is Board Certified by the Florida Bar in both Civil Trial and Business Litigation Law. He is the Past-President of the ABOTA chapter of Palm Beach County, Florida; is a National ABOTA Board Member, is Co-Chair of its International Issues Committee and is Treasurer of The Florida State Chapter of ABOTA (FLABOTA). He has completed Masters in Trial (Jury Trial Demonstrations) throughout the U.S., and in Latvia, Portugal, Korea and Japan, and in 2011 received the ABOTA National Masters in Trial Award. In 2011 he also received the Learned Hand Award from the American Jewish Committee. In 2012 he was named The Florida Bar Certified Lawyer of the Year and received The Justice Harry Lee Anstead Award.
In 1984, Mr. Richman was elected as President of The Florida Bar after having served since 1980 as a member of the Board of Governors, and having chaired the Bar’s Professional Ethics Committee. He was a member of the House of Delegates of the American Bar Association for several terms, and has served as President of the Dade County Bar Association.
Mr. Richman served under gubernatorial appointment and senate confirmation as Chair of the Florida Commission on Human Relations and has served on the Community Alliance of Palm Beach County. He is currently a member of the Board of Directors of The Economic Council of Palm Beach County, and is Treasurer and a member of The Executive Committee of the Criminal Justice Commission of Palm Beach County. In 1989, Mr. Richman was elected as the Democratic Nominee to the United States Congress.
By appointment of the Florida Supreme Court, Mr. Richman has served on the Supreme Court’s Court Efficiency Committee, the Judicial Council of Florida, and the Florida Supreme Court Judicial Evaluations Committee. He was a member of the Florida Condominium Commission created by the State Legislature to investigate the condominium industry and recommend legislative reforms.
By appointment of the Governor, Mr. Richman served as a member of the Fourth District Court of Appeal Judicial Nominating Commission and in 2011-2012 was Chair of the Commission.
He has been a National Director of the American Judicature Society and a Director of The Florida Bar Foundation.
Mr. Richman is admitted to the Florida Bar, the United States Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia, the United States District Courts for all districts of Florida, the United States Court of Appeals for the Eleventh Circuit, the United States Court of Military Appeals, and the United States Supreme Court.
Mr. Richman, while at the University of Florida, was Executive Editor of The Law Review, Chancellor of the Honor Court and was selected as the best speaker in the state and regional Moot Court competitions. He also co-authored the first place brief in the National Moot Court Competition.
While in the Defense Appellate Division of the Army Judge Advocate General’s Corps in Washington, D.C., he was awarded the Presidential Service Badge for Honorable Service at the White House. Mr. Richman an AV rated lawyer by Martindale Hubbell has been selected since 1990 for the Business Litigation section of The Best Lawyers in America, has appeared in Who’s Who in American Law since 1977, is listed in Chambers USA Directory as a leader in his field, and is in Who’s Who in America. Mr. Richman has also been named as one of the top 100 attorneys in the state and as a Florida Super Lawyer in the area of business litigation and Bet Your Company litigation. This distinction is reserved for the top 5% of Florida attorneys in their respective areas of practice as chosen by their peers and the independent research of Law and Politics.
